What types of hearing aids are available?
There are several main types of hearing aids, each with different advantages. Behind-the-Ear (BTE) hearing aids sit behind the ear with tubing that connects to an ear mold, offering powerful amplification and easy handling. Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) or Receiver-in-the-Ear (RITE) devices have the speaker placed directly in the ear canal with a thin wire connection, providing natural sound quality and discretion. In-the-Ear (ITE) hearing aids fit entirely within the outer ear and are custom-made for your ear shape.
In-the-Canal (ITC) and Completely-in-Canal (CIC) devices are smaller and more discreet, fitting partially or completely within the ear canal. Invisible-in-Canal (IIC) hearing aids are the smallest and most discreet option. Your hearing care professional will recommend the best type based on your hearing loss degree, lifestyle needs, dexterity, and cosmetic preferences.
