Can I wear my hearing aids while sleeping?

Last updated on Nov 06, 2025

It's generally not recommended to wear hearing aids while sleeping. Your ears need time to "breathe" and air out to prevent moisture buildup and potential infections. Additionally, sleeping with hearing aids can cause discomfort, feedback issues, or damage to the devices if you roll over on them. However, some people with severe hearing loss may need to keep one hearing aid in for safety reasons (like hearing smoke alarms). If you must sleep with hearing aids, discuss this with your hearing care provider for guidance on doing so safely.
